DELF-DALF's

DELF and DALF have authorised certifications presented by the French Ministry of Education to endorse ability in the French language of non-native speakers of French. The certificates are globally renowned and frequently used by foreign ministries of education to evaluate French linguistic skills.

They consist of 6 independent certificates that match the levels of language expertise of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The 6 endorsements are entirely independent, i.e., applicants can register to study their choice. At each level, 4 skills are assessed: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

DELF

The DELF diploma is accepted worldwide – it is specified by the French Ministry of Education so it is as authorised as it gets! The DELF diploma consists of the first four levels of the CEFRL i.e. levels A1, A2, B1, and B2, from elementary to upper-intermediate. Each exam tests you on four areas, covered in various papers:

  • Reading (25 marks)
  • Speaking (25 marks)
  • Writing (25 marks)
  • Listening (25 marks)

Exams are marked out of 100. To clear any of the levels, you must score 50/100, with a minimum score of 5/25 in each area.

The total timings given to the candidates to complete these four tests are listed as follows:

  • DELF A1: 1 hour 20 minutes
  • DELF A2: 1 hour 40 minutes
  • DELF B1: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • DELF B2: 2 hours 30 minutes

DALF

As an authorised state-issued diploma, DALF is accepted worldwide. The DALF diploma consists of the last two levels of the CEFRL i.e. levels C1-C2. However, the C1 exam checks you on four areas, enclosed in different papers:

  • Reading (25 marks)
  • Writing (25 marks)
  • Listening (25 marks)
  • Speaking (25 marks)

Exams are marked out of 100. To clear any of the levels, you must score 50/100, with a minimum score of 5/25 in each area.

The C2 exam is a little different and chains linked skills as follows:

  • Reading and writing (50 marks)
  • Speaking and listening (50 marks)

To pass this exam, you must also score a minimum of 50 marks out of 100. However, in total across the four papers, DALF exams last:
